Dental Assisting Examination Statistics

The Board’s Dental Assisting Program provides statistics on passing rates for examinations required for licensure. The statistics show passing rates by approved educational program (school). Currently, data is available for the following examinations:

  • Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) General and Law and Ethics Written Examination (BPC § 1749.1 and 16 CCR § 1081)
  • Registered Dental Assistant in Extended Functions (RDAEF) Written Examination (BPC § 1753)
  • Orthodontic Assistant (OA) Examination (BPC § 1750.2)
  • Dental Sedation Assistant (DSA) Examination (BPC § 1750.4)

Data from prior years is available for examinations that are no longer used for licensure. Examinations not in use include:

  • RDA Law and Ethics Examination (combined with the RDA Written Examination effective May 24, 2018)
  • RDA Written Examination (combined with the RDA Law and Ethics Examination effective May 24, 2018)
  • RDA Practical Examination (BPC § 1752.3, suspension by the Board maintained indefinitely by AB 1519 (Low, Chapter 865, Statutes of 2019); see BPC § 1752.1, subd. (j))
  • RDAEF Practical Examination (BPC § 1753.4, repealed by SB 607 (Min, Chapter 367, Statutes of 2021))
  • RDAEF Clinical Examination (BPC § 1753.4, repealed by SB 607 (Min, Chapter 367, Statutes of 2021))
